Kabianga Tea Factory Ltd. was incorporated in the Republic of Kenya as a private company on 14th April 1997 under the Companies Act cap 486, Laws of Kenya.

The company inaugurated a state-of-the-art new tea factory which started operations in September 2011. It is approx 280 kms west of Nairobi, in the Great Rift Valley. It is situated about 20 km off Kericho – Sotik Highway branching at a junction known as Premier along the way to Kabianga University College.

The actual location is at Google Maps -0.447045 Longitude and 35.155435 Latitude, an altitude of about 6,500 ft above sea level, on volcanic red soil and an annual rainfall of approximately 1200-1500 mm, suitable for good growing conditions of tea, Camellia sinensis.

STATUTORY COMPLIANCE & MEMBERSHIPS

The company is a member of the EATTA (The East Africa Tea Trade Association), the TBK (Tea Board of Kenya) and the Tea Packers Association of Kenya.

The factory has complied with statutory legal requirements viz:

  • NEMA for environmental compliance under Environmental Management and Coordination Act 1999
  • KEBS for made tea quality, KS 2128 on Tea Industry, Cap 496, Laws of Kenya
  • Fire and Noise compliance audits
  • Occupational Health and Safety, Factories and Other Places of Work, Act 514
  • Employment Act 2007 and principles of corporate management

Rainforest Alliance: The RA is non-governmental organization (NGO) working to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behaviour.

ISO 22000:2005: food safety certification standard since 2016.

Annual Manufacturing Capacity

The annual manufacturing capacity of the processing plant is 16,000,000 kgs. green leaf and at a conversion factor of 23.50 % will yield 3,760,000 kgs. made tea per annum.
